I’m excited to be going into our thirty-eighth. Thanks to all who participated last week. I hope you will continue to join us when you can.
Today would have been my dad’s 78th birthday so I felt I should do some windows to honor him.
My father always played the lottery; faithfully. Even when he was dying of cancer he got out when he could if only to buy his tickets. He preferred to go himself, even if we drove and even if he had to wait in the car. Staying home and sending one of us out was a last resort.
This is not a Maryland lottery sign but it will do.
Another of dad’s loves was Budweiser. He didn’t drink near as much after he retired as before but he still loved it. I can remember him calling me on his yearly solo trip to Myrtle Beach. He would brag how he was going to play golf and even drink a couple of beers. “You should come with me some time; its a blast” he’d say.
I had a heck of a time finding Budweiser in a window. I went clean over to West Virginia looking for a good ole dive bar and couldn’t find any. Where have all the dive bars gone?
My Dad was raised a Catholic but had switched to Lutheran and then to Methodist in his later years, he was no less a believer and I have to add Jesus to the list of “things” he loved.
Born and raised in Washington DC, my father worked there for most of his life either with Potomac Electric Power Company or the Watergate Hotel as a limo driver (boy did that garner some stories!).
In any case, it’s safe to say, “Dad loved DC!”
Happy birthday in heaven Dad. Give my love to Mom.
I know you have it for some weeks now but your new header is great!

Thanks Jo. I didn’t even realize until a few days before that his birthday fell on a Thursday. I had no choice but to do this once I saw that.
