Velvet Verbosity: Starving

I see you looking at me.
I hear you talking to me.
I want to listen.
I want to look your way,
But I do not understand you
You do not understand me.

I feel bad,
Like I am ignoring you.
But I am not ignoring you.
I am dumbfounded.
I don’t know what to say,
Cause everything I say is wrong,
And my silence is wrong.

I am not trying to ignore you,
I know you are starving for attention,
My attention.
I want to feed you.
But you are allergic.

I don’t know what to do
Or say.

  1. This is just excellent, Dawn! And so powerful.

And I’d be willing to bet that the RR track in that picture is a little farther along on the same track I wrote the story about. Beautiful picture!

  2. When I was younger, I felt this way sometimes with my sister. We have very different ways of approaching the world. As we’ve gotten older, our relationship has healed, but it was hard sometimes in our teens and twenties.

  3. Yes, I remember reading this one. I like this very much, but I think I was teasing you about the RR track when I commented previously and forgot to say so. I can see why it is one of your favorites. It’s packed with so much emotion and there’s great realism in your description of a relationship problem that many people couldn’t begin to describe. Really good work, Dawn.
