Velvet Verbosity: Sand

When I was a younger mother,
with two little kids in tow,
our trips to the beach were memorable.
We brought home souvenirs.

The sand was everywhere and stayed with us like the grass from the Easter baskets,
icicles from the Christmas tree.
They were mementos that would reappear,
for days, months, years.

No matter how many times I cleaned there would always be a stray,
to reappear;
an icicle, a blade of Easter basket grass, and the sand that got everywhere.

They’ve been gone for a long time now;
the sand, the grass, the icicles.

Sand (w)
