Ms. Senter called me into her office first thing Monday morning. “Roxanne” she began “I have a unique opportunity for you and Brad. The board loved our ideas and was impressed with the work your team put into my presentation. They think you could benefit from a weekend of seminars in New York. This is not mandatory, of course but it’s a wonderful opportunity and turning it down would be frowned upon. The only catch is that the board will only pay for one room. Would you have a problem sharing a room with Brad?”
As I sat here on the bus the conversation replayed in my head. I was devastated and embarrassed and I still had to give her an answer in the morning. I knew I should talk to Brad but I had turned my phone off, ignoring not just him but the world. I stared out the window while the tears ran down my cheek.
