Velvet Verbosity: Marriage

All I could think was “get me to the church on time”
And he did
And then he walked me down the aisle and handed me over
I was only 17

I promised to love a man I barely knew for the rest of my life
And I meant it
Marriage was a sacrament
The final one before death

I was ahead of schedule
Or so I hoped
If I had stopped to think, long enough to hope
But if I had stopped to think, there would be no marriage to a man I barely knew

I was only 17

  1. This is sentimental and thought-provoking, too. It would be hard to have handled this, at such a young age. Did it all work out, were you together forever? Hope so! Smiles, Robin
