I was with my mom in what is now known as a convenience store. It was about 1962 so it was probably just a mom and pop store. Convenience stores hadn’t been invented yet. In 1962 I was very young so this is my earliest memory. We lived in an apartment in Maryland just over the DC line in a complex called Templeton Manor.
I noticed the twins in the store that their mother ran. They were my friends as much as a two-year-old has friends and I ran to them upon entering. I didn’t care that my friends had polka dots all over their face but my mother did. She grabbed me viciously by the arm and we left the store.
The next week I had the same polka-dotted face but no friends came to visit.
