Welcome to Friday Fictioneers where each week close to 100 people participate in a flash fiction challenge based on a photo prompt.

And now my 100 word story:
Linda and Sally had been high school friends but hadn’t seen each other since Sally divorced her husband Tom 20 years ago. Through facebook the two reconnected however it took three years for them to meet in person.
Finally Sally initiated a trip. She chose a halfway point between them and planned a day of sightseeing, lunch, and antiquing.
When the two reunited they instinctively hugged and giggled, like the school girls they once were. Sally looked at her old friend with tears in her eyes and asked “Where have you been!?”
Linda hung her head. “I slept with Tom one night at a party. I still can’t look you in the eye”.
I probably wasn’t supposed to laugh…

Haha..no, it made me laugh that you laughed.

Oops.. wonder if there will be another 20 years before they meet again

I’m thinking Sally won’t hate her former friend but they’re not going to be buddies.

Yes. I’m kind of glad I came to my word limit. I wouldn’t know what to say.

Oops! Somehow I suspected something like that was about to happen, even thought maybe Linda had married Tom after the divorce.

I almost went that route but decided it was too complicated for the word count.

Well honesty is usually the best policy, though here I think this reunion might be a tad short-lived.

Yes I believe Sally will have lunch with her, get some more info, tell her she forgives her (it’s been a long time ago) and move on.

Maybe she should have waited until after their day out together. “Bye, see you soon, I slept with your husband, keep in touch, bye…”

I think it’s probably been festering for a while. Confession is good for the soul you know. Linda will finaly be able to put this demon to rest.

Doh. Very much into the trashy romance novel genre. Good Job.

Somehow it feels as though bygones will soon be exactly that. One of the great things about reuniting online is that often we realize the things that drove us apart and kept us there aren’t nearly as important after all.
All my best,

Once I hooked back up with some high school friends I found out that nie of my perceptions of their home life were correct and vice versa.

And clearly my reader response was far different from that of others . . . funny, huh? We do all bring our own experiences to each story.

I think the story lends itself to your reaction Marie, after all it was a long long time ago. Sally has divorced the man in question (probably for infidelity) and is over it. There’s no reason to hold a grudge.

Ouch! Curious to see how the two will recover from this…

I think they will probably keep their distance. They’ve aged without each other and although Linda might want to pursue the relationship now that her conscience is clear Sally would never fully trust her.

The folly of youth! Perhaps if Glenda had told her from the truth so many years ago, she would’ve save them both a lot of pain. Once a dog always a dog. 😉

I don’t think she was really ready for that reunion.Randy

Dear Dawn,
A well written story that has far more truth to it than most will imagine.

Sally wasn’t lucky with the husband nor with the friend!

aaawkward… if i were Sally, I’d probably splash acid on Linda’s eyes… so she’ll never have to worry about looking me in the eye. that’s what friends are for. 🙂 ok, that was harsh. great story.

Dawn, I was also kind of expecting Linda to now be married to Tom and glad that wasn’t it. Linda has unburdened herself, but now Sally has that memory. I can well believe they’ll never be buddies again even though Sally forgave her. Well written. 🙂 —Susan

I hope it’s water under the bridge! It took so long for them to meet again. At least she told her. I give her credit for that. Unique story, Dawn.

I wonder if the little sleep-over happened before or after the divorce. I’m sure that fact would make a big difference to Sally.

Before. Sally and Tom were still married when he “did” one of her best friends. What a guy! lol

Noooo! She should have kept that secret for ever.
