It’s a Big World Out There

So many of us love to travel, myself included. But my funds are limited and so I only go a few hours away. I’ll probably never see Europe, Rome, or sadly Ireland but I am going south to Roanoke next month and north to Gettysburg PA in October. I’m excited!

  2. I am not rolling in the kind of dough that helps with traveling either. But I would love to go to Gettysburg again. I keep bugging Jeff. Maybe when things around here settle down we’ll be able to go back, ride a horse, see another cannonball hole in the wall of an old building, get some good eats. Fun! This here country is big enough for getting some good traveling done.;-)

  4. Gettysburg. Site of Pickets doomed charge. Where that idiot Jeb Stewart called his cavalry to retreat in the face of a much smaller cavalry charge mustered by the soon to be promoted, and soon to be famous, Colonel Custer. If Jeb had half the courage his mount did the day would have been filled with much more ‘southern’ charm:) But the moron failed us:(… Still! Beautiful place from what I’ve seen. I do hope you have a great visit. Bring us back some photos if you can.

  7. I think we should never underestimate exploring your own homeland. I have traveled all around Australia yet my overseas trips have been limited to USA and Canada in my early 20s. Funnily someone said to me they were glad I finally had the travel bug when I took a trip to Europe this year. I explained I had the bug badly hence my Australian explorations to which they replied that OS was real travel. I had trouble getting my head around that comment đŸ™‚ Enjoy your travels đŸ™‚

  9. We have never been to Roanoke but love Gettysburg. We used to go two times a year, there is so much to do and see. Oct is a great time to go. Definitely go to the square and visit the local shops – not so much to buy to see what they sell in clothing for the re-enacters. Also while walking downtown they usually have small areas for living history. For dining there are plenty of good places and I can recommend the Farnsworth house that has authentic meals from that time period and bullet holes still in the bricks from the battle. Another place to go is the Dobbins House. Both historical buildings. You will be in my neck of the woods – we are three hours north of Gettysburg. Enjoy your trip. And although I have been overseas I can honestly say our country has plenty of fun and interesting things to see as well. Can’t wait to see your pictures and hear about Roanoke, still on my list of places to visit.

    • Thank you Patty for this well thought out comment. I have been to Dobbin House a few times but not The Farnsworth; they were closed the last time I was there (in February 2013) I’ll make sure to move that up the list this visit.
      My friends visiting this weekend recommend O’Rorkes; it’s always good to know the best paces to eat.
      I’m three hours south(west) of Gettysburg.

      • I could not remember O’Rorkes another favorite. I hope the Farnsworth house did not close permanently? I did not realize you went before, then you know exactly where to go and what to do! It is a great city and I am so thankful they did not put gambling on the battle field.

    It is to appreciation every step of your journey.
