In May, just before Memorial Day I went to Culpeper Virginia to shoot the National Cemetery there. Reading about the Union soldiers buried there after the Civil War I wondered about the Confederate soldiers.
It didn’t take me long to find out that there is a cemetery less than 30 minutes from my home that contains an area that was specifically created for these men. Soldiers Circle sits inside Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal, Virginia.
186 Confederate soldiers are buried here, most of them local and gathered by The Ladies Warren Memorial Association in 1868. There are other confederate graves, of soldiers from all 13 original states here also.
