Velvet Verbosity: Smooth

This post is in response to the 100 word writing challenge from Velvet Verbosity where we are asked to write 100 words inspired by a single prompt. This week’s word is Smooth.

I look into the mirror and use my fingers to push back the excess skin. I remember a time when my face was smooth, free from the wrinkles and lines that have become part of my new look.

My new look (sigh); consists of silver highlights, flat shoes, and respectable necklines. I donated all my miniskirts, high heels, (and those plunging necklines).

I step cautiously, careful not to trip or fall. I feel as though I have lost my courage. My older friends say I have gained sensibility. I imagine one day I will say this to my younger friends.

  1. Great response to the prompt, a really unique interpretation! I remember seeing a woman standing on a train platform when I was in my teens, she must have been about 80, and she was wearing six inch heels. I always vowed I would do the same. We shall see. 😉

  2. Oh dear, silver highlights, flat shoes…and stepping carefully… I can (sadly) identify with this all too well. 😧

  3. Some serious reflections here, Dawn. (Honestly, no pun intended.) I like to say that I’ve paid my dues and have now reached the age when I DESERVE to wear only what’s comfortable.

That picture is amazing. What a creative and talented photographer you are.
