When my paternal grandmother was alive she kept a large (punch sized) bowl filled with matchbooks. My older cousin used to tease her that it was a fire hazard but I was always impressed by the exotic places she had been and her tiny glossy souvenirs.
I found it interesting when I saw this segment on CBS and learned the origin of matchbooks were not as glamorous as I pictured my grandmother.
That is fascinating! My husband used to collect them but he gave them all away when we moved to our bungalow. They are fun though.
