…Improve the World
My blogger friend Agnes often does A Friday’s Five post in which she shares five things she is grateful for from her week. I have followed this blog for a few years now and have been with Agnes through some ups and downs. That sounds presumptive, I know but there are times when a blogger touches you so deeply that it feels as if you are neighbors, even cousins.
I admire Agnes for so many reasons but this post in particular made me sit up and take notice. In my little town I am surrounded by people who make the effort to improve the world and they are often overshadowed by those who do little more than loudly complain.
If you follow my blog, and especially if you are local, you may be familiar with some of our townsfolk whom I admire. My friend Tiffany, at Tippy’s Bakery often goes above and beyond but she does it so quietly it may seem (to her) to go unnoticed. Not by me, Tiff and not by the folks you help day in and day out.
My friend Janet and her husband Ron add to our community in many ways. Not only through two of the businesses they run (remember Pot Town Organics?) but also the farmer’s market that they support in the alcove of their building on King Street. They do this is for the community.
This week I shared a little about STAUFFERSTADT Artist Residency and their work to bring art into our community (read about it here), an endeavor I believe is as important as social work and commerce.
The Restore Hope Pantry, the Riverside Church, the Strasburg United Methodist Church and other religious organizations in Strasburg and the people involved do wonderful things for their fellow citizens and especially those facing hard times. Most importantly they do it with dignity.
There are many other people that make this town great, too many for me to mention here, but I hope they know, we see you. We may not be able to hear you over the loud complainers, but we see you and the things you are accomplishing, and I for one, am inspired.
Wonderful post- and one of those little libraries just came in handy for us this past week when we got to the beach and realized my husband had left his book home- there is one of these libraries on the boardwalk, so off we went and borrowed a book! š
