Friday Fictioneers: It’s Just Stuff

When Charles told Lauren he was in love with someone else she was crushed. It broke her heart to have to sell the house but she refused to share any of the things they had carefully furnished their home with.

Charles didn’t fight her on it. It is “just stuff” he said. It broke her heart again that he would so readily walk away from the last ten years.

Two years later, as she pulled out of the parking lot for the umpteenth time, she glimpsed the storage unit in her rear-view, “I need to have a yard sale” she thought.

  1. We have a friend who suffers from “separation anxiety” when it comes to selling her “stuff.” The good news is Lauren can always get new “stuff” and cut her losses on the rental of the storage bin.

  2. I like the way this moves from the stuff being important to her with all the memories associated with it to in the end being just stuff to her too. She’s toughened up and is moving on
