Inspired my story:

Monique sat by her bay window and watched the boats full of tourists float by. She hated this time of year. There were so many people that didn’t belong here milling about. She liked it better in the winter, except for the cold, of course. But none of these strangers were here in the winter. She could leave her house and no one stared at her or tried to stop her, or whispered about her as she walked by. Her neighbors knew her story and their whispers had ceased years ago when she became just another oddity among oddities.

Finally, she had had enough. She made a few phone calls and went to take a bath. When she came out an hour later her bags were packed and were being loaded into the car.

She gave her maid a little hug, “Keep the dust down darling, I’ll be back in the three months”.

  1. Good for her! She finally left for the summer so she doesn’t have to deal with the tourists. Instead, she is going to go somewhere else and be one! LOL! Great story, Dawn!

  4. Until I read your comment above, I wondered in what way Monique was odd, too. It’s clear in the story she’s different to others in some way. I don’t blame her for not liking the crowds of tourists – that’s definitely a downside of living in a holiday town. A nicely told story, Dawn.
