Friday Fictioneers: A Fresh Start

Annemarie looked behind her. She couldn’t see anyone but she heard their feet pounding the sidewalk. She saw the tunnel up ahead and knew it was her only choice. After all these years it seemed like such a waste to have to go back.

She thought of Derrick and how he would never know what happened to her. She wished she had time to leave a note. But what would she say? “I love you but my past has caught up to me and I have to return to when I was a child.”

“Ridiculous!” she thought as she hurled herself through.

  1. The tunnel really does look like a time portal, now I am thinking of all the possible scenarios as to why she would go back to being a child?

  2. I’m with the Doc on this one. It made me reflect on my own path. And what if we were going to the next life? What regrets will we leave behind when we enter that bright passageway?

  3. I love it when people just take a moment to focus on a flash of a larger story for these sorts of pieces, rather than trying to fit a whole story into a hundred words. Intriguing.
