Desperate to be loved Lori stayed with David despite her family’s objections.
He borrowed $1000.00 from her at Christmas and spent half of it on a ring.
Lori was thrilled that they were finally engaged.
And then he cheated.
The pain assaulted her like a punch to the face and she locked herself away until the tears dried up.
Determined to make a change, she emerged a few weeks later, her head held high. She forced herself to smile, look people in the eye, and exude a confidence she did not feel.
That is when she met Jesse.

Dear Dawn,
“Desperate to be loved” is the operative I think. I hope Jesse is a better man than David. Why do I have the ominous feeling that he won’t be? Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Eeegad…I hope he will be. Iw as trying to show you attract ewhat you put out. Desperate to be loved she got this guy who didn’t treat her very well. But a smile and a positive attitude, hopefully gets her a guy who loves her for her.

What does it say about me that I immediately assumed the worst about Jesse. Good one, Dawn.

Probably that you have much better instincts than Lori!

Ditto. I didn’t see this as a happy ending either.

Sheesh. I was over David when he spent the 500 on a ring. Scumbag. Good story, Dawn.

This is expertly done as always, Dawn, and I like the optimistic note, but given your track record I fear the worst.

Nicely told. I liked that she looked herself away until the tears had dried. Something we often want to do. I am not sure about Jessie, but hopefully she learned her lesson.

Sometimes we have to retreat, then regroup and try again and sometimes again, that David was a real bad guy.

I hope that the next guy is not similar… but I feel that Lori might be one of those girls that always fall for the wrong guy.

I reckon we should start taking bets on whether Jesse and Lori live happilly ever after…or not.
My thinking is that Jesse is attracted to and shares her superficial confidence and I have my doubts about a relationship working out when it’s based on a fascade. It sounds like she needs to find her own shoes and learn to feel confident walking in them but she definitely seems on her way.
I hope that makes sense. A lot to think about there.
Well done.
Getting people to think, is an important element of writing.

Ahhh … it’s tough when you get mistreated when you invest so much of yourself.
I like the hopeful ending despite her putting on a brave face. It may just get her the one who will treat her special. I think this story leaves the reader with hope. I enjoyed reading it, Dawn.
