Friday Fictioneers: Sensible Shoes

I’ve always been a woman with sensible shoes
Good posture
High morals
Scruples

People look me over and automatically decide
I am delicate
I need sheltering
Protecting

They become someone different around me
No cursing
Raucous behavior
Stepping out of line

I’m a librarian, of course
I look the part
So why not play it?
It keeps people off guard

The men are especially gullible
They are so easily manipulated
Most will do whatever I ask
Go wherever I suggest

They have decided I can be trusted
It’s part of the ruse
The best part, really
That look of surprise
When the knife goes in

  1. Dawn – It will sound like I am being contrary to the theme, but I just offer this anecdote. My wife often looks at me when I drag her into a project ands says “You do still remember I am a girl, right?” It is because she is on the other end of some heavy object we are trying to tote somewhere. I don’t consider her weaker, but I know her body is constructed for different purposes. I liked this!

  2. Well done, Dawn,. Very well crafted. They always seem to be looking for the ones who blend in and who better than a librarian. I used to work in a very conservative company, yet the librarian always wore fishnets. I reckon she had a wild side as well, though I don’t think it was of the murdering kind. Although there was this girl at work…

  3. Ah, how you love to kill off your characters! Love the idea that the sensible shoes are all part of her disguise – the straitlaced lady with the killer secret. Great stuff

  4. After reading the post, I had to double check to see who’s blog I was on. Now, I can see you peeking over the top of your glasses, staking out the next victim.
