“How much further?” my grandson asked me again.
“We have a ways yet. Why don’t you take a nap?”
“I’m not tired” he replied with a loud sigh.
“There sure not much to look at on this drive” he stated.
“No, not here” I agreed.
“Who do you suppose lives there?” he asked incredulously, pointing to a lone house wedged into the side of the hill. It’s brown hue, blending in with its surroundings.
“Hmmm.. I don’t know. Who do you think?” I asked, hoping to spark his imagination.
“Someone who doesn’t like people” he replied. “Maybe a writer.
Or a murderer!”

The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive, are they?

When my grandson and I are traveling we often make up stories to help pass the time. It’s a good exercise in imagination!

Just that a writer is akin to a murderer is brilliantly observed, love it

Dear Dawn,
I was just discussing “literary killing” with someone today. The writer and the murderer are often one and the same. 😉 Well done.

I woke up got up at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, thinking it was 6:00 a.m. and time to get ready to go teach my class. When I discovered my mistake I tuned into FF and murdered some people. Certainly, writers and murderers can be one and the same. Great little tale, Dawn.
