Last week I attended a family wedding. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to attend but I put all my effort into it and with the help and encouragement from those I love I made it. There were a lot of elements and stars that needed to align to make this trip possible.
My employment has not been stable since my fall in 2017 when I ran into this group of teenagers in the Shenandoah National Park, so traveling to or taking extended days off to see family has not been a luxury I am often afforded. Normally it is not really a problem but I made a commitment to one of my favorite nieces, to be at her wedding and if you know me, you know I am all about commitment.
This niece is actually my youngest step-sister’s daughter, but in our family we try to blur the lines as often as we can.
Her father, I’ll be honest, is not one of my favorite people, but that was years ago and I don’t know the man he is today so I can only go by this…he is the father to one of my favorite nieces and the grandfather to her daughter. Family is like that, layer upon layer.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
