Best of the Week: Closer Through Social Distancing

I keep saying (mostly to myself since I live alone and am quarantined from my friends) that I can’t wait to see the innovations that are sparked by these times of quarantine and social distancing.

On a personal level I spent a couple of hours with my friend Yvonne recently, at a respectful 6 feet (give or take) apart. I have known Yvonne or danced on the outskirts of her social network for years. In fact when I moved to the area in 1979, her older sister was one of the the first women to befriend me.

Yvonne is the best friend of my dear friend Carole…surely you have heard of her if you have followed me for any amount of time. Carole is one of my photog friends, probably one of my original photog friends. I met Carole through my best friend Laurie.

Okay, so maybe now it is starting to get confusing. But we live in a small town, one which the primary employer for over 30 years, was The Press. Yvonne and I worked there…but never together. Our paths crossed many times but never really intersected.

Yvonne has a beautiful house just outside of town and next to it a field of poppies. Every photographer knows there is nothing like capturing a field of anything, especially poppies, so Carole suggested I visit. I’ve been to Yvonne’s home a time or two but never did I have her undivided attention. The poppies were not popping but nonetheless, we had a lovely visit. Thank you COVID 19. (tongue in cheek).

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. It is the season that showcases the vibrancy of pinks and purples, and of course, yellows. Click here to see how Spring has sprung in my neighborhood.
