I love the ginkgos, especially in autumn when they turn from green to yellow then fall creating a carpet below. But this year was a disappointment. I’m not sure what happened but I visited Ginkgo Grove in the State Arboretum one day last week and they were just beginning to turn yellow but were still mostly green.
I waited 5 days to go back thinking that even if they had begun to fall I would still get that yellow carpet. But no, not only were the trees bare but the leaves on the ground were still mostly green. The carpet may look yellow in the picture but in person it was mostly green. What a disappointment!
I’ve attached some past seasons when I highlighted the Ginkgo. This year is a bust!
I love autumn so I am hosting the 2021 Festival of Leaves Challenge. I will post every Thursday and I invite everyone to join in any time through the week for any or all weeks.
This challenge usually runs about 10-12 weeks, with the last week being a wrap up. You can link up here or on any of the individual weeks. Be sure to tag your post Festival of Leaves so it is easy to find in the reader.

I thought I send you a gingko picture. But I have to admit it is from 2015.

Sorry about the ginkgo disappointment, Dawn. Some folks’ autumn were either prolonged like ours was here in Northeastern Wasghington, or short and maybe not sweet! Maybe you’ll be posting for Festival of Leaves for a few more weeks?

Hi Dawn
I think your top photo of the tree-lined path is a stunner. It’s a beautiful scene and I’d love to find myself walking deeper into it. The leaves here this year sure are nothing to write home about. Probably everywhere is like that I guess?
Here’s my offering for this week:
Best, Babsje

Some aren’t too bad, but you are right, this has not been our best autumn for color. The image you speak of is from the lane to our covered bridge. I have been there twice trying t recreate this but it is just not going to happen this year. hopefully next.

Hi Dawn
The Ginkgo Grove in the State Arboretum looks like a wonderful place to visit in any season, but sorry the colors disappointed this Autumn. Maybe next year? I’m cheating on the ‘leaves’ topic by including grasses and reeds that have become straw-colored in Autumn.
Here’s my offering that includes autumn reeds and grasses:
Best, Babsje
