Billy and I had been together for three years, but our days were numbered. Things I used to find cute and quirky, now irritated me.
We had been fighting all morning because I asked him to throw his dirty clothes in the hamper, which he couldn’t do because he “had a system”. Why would I ever think that was cute? It was stupid. He was stupid.
I needed a break. I opened the window and straddled the sill just as my new co-worker walked by. He shouted up to me and waved. I smiled. “He’s cute and quirky” I thought.

Like Groundhog Day. She may jump off of that carousel at some point, otherwise she’s in for a loooooong ride. Good one, Dawn.

Dear Dawn,
Mayday! Cute and quirky can turn to tedious and hackneyed on a dime. She does have a pattern. Nicely done.

Just a matter of time before he begins to irritate her then she’ll have to go on another cute hunt, then another, then….!

And again and again until she meets someone whose idiosyncrasies she can tolerate after he is past the cute and quirky stage. That’s the definition of true love.
