The building sits on a corner lot. The windows are broken, the walls graffitied. It should have been razed a long time ago for the evil that occurred there.
Instead, it has become a den for drug-users and the homeless. Simply walking by puts your life in danger.
It houses a new kind of evil these days, one we inflict on ourselves from habits that are out of control.
It is raided every few weeks, and while the dealers hide in the shadows, the addicts are taken to jail, and the dead, lying in wait, to the morgue.

Such a shame these places become crime dens whilst beautiful fields and woodlands are annihilated for homes isn’t it.
Great story.

Yet there are places all over the world which are taken over by crime, just like that.

Wow, very visceral. This is true of so many places and as you say, it’s not the dealers who suffer when they get raided.

Dear Dawn,
There are too many places like this. A well written social commentary…sadly.

In my youth, such a building would have been like a magnet to me.
Very often the addicted, the dealers, and the dead are the same people. Whithout such places, where would they go?
A hard story well-done.

Dawn, you’ve sized that place up well. I bet the EMTs (emergency medical techs) get tired of carrying their gurneys out to the place.
